Bloom finds the pixels above a brightness floor, blurs them, and adds the result back over the frame. It is what makes an emissive panel read as emitting rather than as a light-coloured surface

Past ×3 the halo overwhelms the pixels that produced it and the whole frame reads as haze, which is where the slider stops
Threshold Is the Setting That Matters
The default of 0.8 catches genuine highlights and leaves the rest alone. Drop it toward 0 and every pixel qualifies, so the avatar's face glows as readily as a neon sign — occasionally the look you want, usually not
Bloom is additive, so it only ever brightens. A frame with nothing above the threshold renders identically with the effect on or off
A VRM's MToon Emissive slider reaches ×4 precisely so you can push chosen materials over this threshold. That pair is how an avatar gets glowing eyes or a lit visor
Streaks
Streak is the long flare an anamorphic lens throws — highlights smeared along one axis into a thin bright line. It carries its own set of controls because it works differently: the halo spreads in every direction, a streak only smears along one
At 0 the streak's two extra passes never enter the graph, so leaving it off costs nothing
Streak Angle is continuous rather than a horizontal/vertical toggle: 0° is horizontal, ±90° is vertical, and every angle between is reachable. Streak Tint defaults to the classic lens blue #8080ff, and Streak Threshold is separate from bloom's own — so you can bloom a whole face while streaking only the brightest few pixels on it
Darken
Darken dims the body as the glow rises, masked to the avatar's own pixels. Highlights pop harder that way instead of the whole frame brightening together
It is the same trick VTube Studio's bloom uses. The default of 0 is neutral, so a scene saved before this parameter existed renders exactly as it did
