LAPLACE Cycles delivers reminders via local iOS notifications, scheduled and dispatched entirely on your device without relying on external push servers. Reminders are disabled by default: enable notifications first, then choose which alerts each profile should receive.
Turning On Reminders
- Tap the gear icon in the top-left corner of the Profiles tab to open Settings, then tap Notifications.
- Toggle on Enable Reminders. The first time you enable this, iOS will prompt you to grant notification permissions.
- Under the Profiles section, tap any profile and toggle on Upcoming Period, Check-In, or both.
If notifications for LAPLACE Cycles have been disabled in system settings, an Open Settings button will appear to help you re-enable them. Note that notification delivery is also subject to active Focus modes and system notification settings.
Once enabled, the screen displays the count of currently Scheduled Reminders.
Reminder Types
| Reminder | Description |
|---|---|
| Upcoming Period | Reminds you before the profile's next predicted period. Customize lead time under Timing |
| Check-In | If no new period is logged, a single gentle check-in arrives three days after the profile's predicted start date. This is a logging reminder, not an alert that a period is late |
Reminders are scheduled only for the cycle immediately following the latest logged period. If no new period is recorded, the app intentionally refrains from scheduling speculative reminders month after month. Profiles without any logged periods will not receive reminders.
All reminder dates are estimates and may be less reliable when cycle history is limited or incomplete.
Timing
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Delivery Time | The time of day reminders appear (defaults to 9:00 AM in the device's current time zone) |
| Upcoming Period | How many days before a predicted start date to receive the alert (1–3 days; defaults to 2 days) |
| Combine Daily Reminders | Bundles multiple reminders arriving on the same day into a single consolidated notification (off by default) |
Privacy & Sound
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Sound | Plays an alert tone when notifications arrive (enabled by default) |
| Show Details in Notifications | Displays profile names, photos, and cycle dates directly in notifications (disabled by default) |
To protect your privacy on the Lock Screen, all notifications are discreet by default, reading simply “Reminder” and “You have a reminder to review.” with no personal names, photos, or dates. When Show Details in Notifications is enabled:
- Upcoming Period notifications include the profile name and predicted period date, such as “Mia: the next period is expected around October 22. This date is an estimate and may change.”
- Check-In notifications include the profile name
- A reminder about a single profile that has a background photo comes from that profile: iOS shows the photo in place of the app icon and the profile's name as the title, so the body leaves the name out
- Bundled notifications are titled “Daily Summary” and note how many profiles require review
Notification Actions
Tap any notification banner to jump straight to that profile. On a single-profile notification, touch and hold to reveal quick actions:
- View Profile: Opens the profile card directly
- Log Period: Opens the period logging sheet pre-filled for that profile (the app never logs periods automatically)
- Remind Me Tomorrow: Reschedules the reminder for tomorrow's delivery time (requires unlocking your device)
Bundled daily summary notifications provide View Reminders (which lists all included profiles) and Remind Me Tomorrow.
Test Notification
Tap Send Test Notification to receive a test notification (“Your reminders will appear like this.”) in approximately five seconds. This allows you to verify notification permissions, banner presentation, and sound without displaying any profile data. System Focus filters and notification settings may silence or delay test alerts.
With Show Details in Notifications on, Send Test Notification opens a menu of profiles instead. The test comes from the chosen profile the way its reminders do, with its photo if it has one. If you later turn details off or delete that profile, the test notification is removed just like a reminder.
Notes
- Device-specific preferences: Reminder settings are stored locally on each device and do not sync via iCloud. Configure notification times and preferences individually on each iPhone and iPad
- Automatic rescheduling: Reminders refresh automatically whenever you open the app, log or edit a period, or adjust reminder settings. If changes sync from another device while the app is closed, reminders will recalculate the next time you launch the app
- Time zone changes: When reminders refresh, delivery times and Remind Me Tomorrow snoozes adjust to the device's current time zone
- System notification limits: iOS allows up to 60 notification requests to be scheduled concurrently. Any remaining alerts are queued the next time you open the app. Enabling Combine Daily Reminders helps conserve notification slots when tracking multiple profiles
- Clearing reminders: Turning off Enable Reminders immediately cancels all pending alerts and clears delivered notifications from Notification Center
