This Privacy Policy applies to LAPLACE Cycles, the native iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch application developed by LAPLACE, and its Home Screen widgets.
LAPLACE Cycles is designed with privacy as a foundational principle. The app requires no user accounts, displays no advertisements, collects no analytics, and contains no tracking or third-party SDKs. The profiles and cycle history you record are stored locally on your device and sync privately through your personal iCloud account. LAPLACE operates no servers that receive this data and has no means to access it.
Information the App Stores
The app stores only the information you explicitly provide:
- Profiles: Name, optional background photo, pinned state, creation time, typical cycle and period lengths, and when the profile was chosen to sync to Apple Health (if applicable)
- Period logs: The start date and duration of each period, along with the time zone in which it was recorded so that dates stay consistent when traveling
Cycle forecasts—such as current cycle phases, upcoming period dates, and estimated ovulation windows—are calculated dynamically on-device each time they are viewed and are never stored in your database.
The app can access only the photos you explicitly select in the native iOS photo picker, or those contained in a backup file you import, and never requests access to your photo library. Before saving, images are resized locally so their longest side is at most 1,200 pixels and re-encoded as JPEG, ensuring that GPS coordinates, camera EXIF details, and other photo metadata are stripped completely.
Profiles may contain personal health details about other individuals. Always obtain consent before adding someone else's information. Data is stored solely on your own devices and in your private iCloud storage.
Storage and iCloud Sync
Your data is saved in a local database on the device. On devices signed in to iCloud, the app utilizes Apple's CloudKit to synchronize profiles and period history (including background photos) to a private database container in your personal iCloud account, making them accessible across your iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch signed in with the same Apple Account.
- Your private iCloud database is accessible exclusively via your Apple Account, and LAPLACE cannot read its contents. Apple encrypts iCloud data as described in the iCloud data security overview. Cycles doesn't use CloudKit encrypted fields for the data it syncs, so even with Advanced Data Protection turned on, this data isn't end-to-end encrypted
- Synchronized data counts toward your iCloud storage quota and is governed by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy
- When iCloud is unavailable or your device is offline, data remains safely on your device and synchronizes automatically once connectivity is restored
- Depending on your device settings, local data may be included in system iCloud Backups or encrypted computer backups. LAPLACE cannot access these backups
Settings Stored on Each Device
The following settings are stored locally on each device. They don't sync via iCloud (though they may be included in the device backups above) and are never transmitted to LAPLACE:
- App language and profile sort order
- Reminder preferences: whether reminders are active, delivery time, advance notice days, daily bundling, per-profile alert toggles, sound, and notification detail visibility
- Delivered and snoozed reminder identifiers, kept locally to prevent duplicate alerts
- Calendar sync preferences: whether sync is on, the chosen profiles, whether estimated periods and estimated ovulation windows are included, and each profile's calendar
- Identifiers of profiles deleted on this device whose periods are still waiting to be removed from Apple Health
Widgets
To draw Home Screen widgets, the app copies each profile's name, settings, logged periods, and photo, along with the app's language and sort settings, into a shared container on this device that only its widgets can read. This copy doesn't sync, contains no predictions, and is deleted along with the app.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled and delivered entirely on-device by iOS local notifications, without any remote push servers. LAPLACE never receives or processes notification content. The app requests notification permissions only when you explicitly turn on reminders.
To safeguard sensitive information on your Lock Screen, notifications are anonymous by default, showing only “Reminder” and “You have a reminder to review.” with no names, photos, or cycle details. Profile names and predicted dates appear only when you choose to turn on Show Details in Notifications. In that case, a reminder about a profile with a photo carries a small copy of that photo, which iOS shows in place of the app icon. This also happens entirely on-device, and the interaction isn't shared with Siri.
Calendar Sync
Calendar sync is off by default. Only after you turn on Sync to Calendar and allow full calendar access does the app use Apple's EventKit framework to create a calendar for each chosen profile in your default calendar account, containing the profile's name, logged periods, and predictions. That account (usually iCloud), not LAPLACE, syncs the calendar to your other devices.
The app reads only the list of calendars and the events in the calendars it created, never events in other calendars.
Apple Health
Apple Health sync is off by default. Only after you choose the profile that represents you and allow writing Menstruation data does the app use Apple's HealthKit framework to write that profile's logged period days to Apple Health on this device, with each record tagged with the profile's identifier. Apple Health, not LAPLACE, then syncs them to your other devices.
The app never reads Health data, and predictions and other profiles are never written to Apple Health.
Sharing and Export
The app never shares data automatically. A cycle summary leaves the app only when you explicitly choose Copy Text, Share Text, or Share Image:
- The summary contains the selected profile's name, active cycle phase, and predicted dates. Exported graphic cards also include custom background photos
- Copy Text places information exclusively onto this device's local clipboard and does not broadcast across devices via Universal Clipboard
- Once shared, the content is handled by the apps or recipients you select, subject to their respective privacy policies
Backup Files
When you tap Export Data in Settings, the app writes the chosen profiles' names, photos, settings, and logged periods to an unencrypted backup file, which goes only to the destination you pick in the share sheet. Import Data reads only the file you choose or open, and only adds profiles and periods without changing existing data. Keep backup files somewhere private, and share them only with people you trust.
Purchases
The Unlimited Profiles upgrade is purchased directly through the App Store and processed securely by Apple. The app validates purchase status on-device using Apple's StoreKit framework. LAPLACE never receives your payment details, credit card numbers, or Apple Account credentials.
Network Connections
The app connects only to official Apple services: iCloud (CloudKit) for encrypted multi-device sync, and the App Store (StoreKit) for managing and restoring purchases. Data written to Calendar and Apple Health is synced by the system and your accounts. It sends zero network requests to LAPLACE or third-party servers, and embeds no crash reporting or usage telemetry SDKs.
If you opt in to "Share With App Developers" under iOS Analytics & Improvements, Apple may provide LAPLACE with anonymized crash logs and aggregated usage metrics. This process is managed entirely by Apple, and you can disable it at any time in iOS Settings.
External links within the app—such as Website, Privacy Policy, and Learn About the Menstrual Cycle—open in your default web browser, where each destination's privacy policy applies. For the LAPLACE website privacy policy, see Privacy Policy.
Third Parties
The app sends no user data to LAPLACE or any other third party, so no third party receives your data. Data in iCloud, the App Store, Calendar, and Apple Health is handled by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy.
Permissions
- Notifications: Requested only when you enable reminders
- Calendar: Requested only when you turn on calendar sync. Full access is required to create each profile's calendar
- Health: Requested only when you choose a profile to sync to Apple Health, and only to write Menstruation data
- iCloud: Synchronizes automatically using the Apple Account active on your device
The app never requests access to your location, contacts, camera, microphone, or photo library, and never asks to read Health data.
Tracking
LAPLACE Cycles does not track you across apps or websites, does not access advertising identifiers (IDFA), and does not profile users. LAPLACE never collects your profiles or cycle history, never uses them for advertising, and will never sell your personal information.
Retention and Deletion
You retain complete control over your data. The app works without iCloud, and you can revoke any system permission at any time in iOS Settings. Information is retained only until you delete it:
- Deleting an individual period log or an entire profile removes it from your device immediately. Deleting a profile also removes all associated period logs. When iCloud sync is active, deletions synchronize immediately across all your devices and cannot be undone
- Tapping Remove Background Photo in Edit Profile and saving deletes the photo from your device and iCloud storage
- Disabling Enable Reminders cancels all pending alerts and clears delivered notifications
- Turning off a profile in calendar sync, deleting that profile, or turning off Sync to Calendar deletes the corresponding calendar
- Switching Apple Health sync to another profile removes the periods written for the previous one. When you stop syncing, you can keep or remove them. Deleting the chosen profile also removes its periods from Apple Health
- Exported backup files are yours to keep; delete them yourself when you no longer need them
Deleting the app removes all local database records and the widget copy from that device, but doesn't delete the calendars the app created or the periods it wrote to Apple Health; you can delete those in Calendar and Apple Health. Data previously synced to iCloud will remain in your private iCloud container. To remove that data as well, delete your profiles within the app prior to uninstalling, or go to iOS Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage, select LAPLACE Cycles, and delete its data. LAPLACE holds no copy of your data, so there's nothing to ask us to delete.
