Cycles

Backup

A backup file is a copy you keep yourself, useful for archiving or for moving profiles to another device or another Apple Account. Between devices signed in to the same Apple Account, iCloud syncs profiles automatically, so no backup file is needed.

Export Data

  1. In Settings, tap Export Data. All profiles are selected by default; deselect any you don't need.
  2. Tap Export N Profiles, then choose Save to Files, AirDrop, or another option in the share sheet.

The backup file is named after the export date, such as LAPLACE Cycles Backup 2026-10-06.laplacecycles. The file includes each profile's name, photo, typical cycle and period lengths, and logged periods. It doesn't include predictions, which are worked out again from the logged periods.

Import Data

In Settings, tap Import Data and choose a backup file, or open a backup file directly from Files, Mail, or AirDrop. The app first shows a preview listing what will be added to each profile; once you've reviewed it, tap Import.

Importing only adds data and never changes what's already here:

  • Profiles and periods are matched by their own identifiers, so importing the same file again changes nothing
  • Profiles already here keep their name, photo, and settings, and gain only the periods they don't have
  • Periods that overlap logged ones, or haven't happened yet, are skipped, and the preview shows how many
  • New profiles keep their original identifiers, so reminder and calendar sync settings can recognize restored profiles. Photos are re-encoded to remove any metadata the file may carry

Profile Limit

Adding periods to existing profiles doesn't use any profile slots. New profiles take the free slots in the order they appear in the file; any beyond that are marked Needs Unlimited Profiles, which you can unlock right there with a purchase. Deselect a new profile in the preview to give its slot to the next one.

Notes

  • Imported records sync through iCloud just like records saved normally, and refresh reminders, calendars, and widgets
  • Importing before this device has received the same profiles from iCloud can create duplicate profiles—for example, on a new device, after reinstalling, or when importing the same file on two devices before they sync. Under the same Apple Account, iCloud restores profiles automatically, so there's no need to import
  • Backups from a newer version of LAPLACE Cycles require updating the app before you can import them
